“Liwanag ng Kulay”: Art for a Bright Future

Veteran artist Pol Mesina Jr. showcased the creative milestones of a long and fruitful career in his 7th solo exhibit titled “Points of Transition” at Badass Art Gallery in Pasig. The show, which opened with a reception on September 21, 2025, recapped his artistic journey—from his early impressionistic landscapes on sandpaper, to his quiet slice-of-life renditions of everyday subjects and his pointillist depictions of religious scenes, and finally, his latest brilliant canvases of the most beautiful of nature’s subjects that burst in a riot of color on the gallery walls.

The opening reception was a celebration of Pol’s achievements, drawing long-time patrons and former and current students despite the news of monsoon rains and protest rallies occurring throughout that same day. Guests of honor who were in attendance included Elizabeth Victoria, publisher of Bravo Filipino; former ambassador of The Netherlands to the Philippines, Theo Arnold; and Assistant Secretary Genevieve Velicario-Guevarra of the Dept. of Agriculture.

As an art teacher for many years, Pol has gained a solid reputation as a dedicated and much-sought-after tutor, and many of his students were also present at the opening to offer felicitations and support. Among them were Ms. Minda Ruiz, Dr. Marilyn Leung and family, and Dr. Aileen Saunar, mother of art student Karlsen. The event was emceed by another of Pol’s students, April Grace Bandonill.

Known for his works that portray religious occasions and daily life, Pol draws inspiration from both natural and manmade subjects—from the views of the Antipolo hills to scenes of neighborhood kids at play. His style blends impressionism and realism, using light, shadow, and color to express life. Pol made the pivotal decision in 1996 to become a full-time artist. In 2014, he co-founded the ARTipolo Group, where he currently serves as president. As a respected art teacher, his mentorship has inspired many younger artists.

Art Meets 2 Hearts

“Simply 60”

That’s sixty artworks in a show that promises a whirl of playfulness, unbridled invention, perhaps a glorious mess at times—but always radiating a singular energy that celebrates the artist’s creative journey.

Fragments of a Dream

Tam Urao explores a world where memories that make up the very fabric of our dreams forever linger at the edge of consciousness, providing an escape from the glaring reality of everyday struggles.

In his first solo art exhibit “Fragments of a Dream,” the artist plumbs the intricate tapestry of human relationships. The title of the show itself is a poignant reflection of the ephemeral nature of our connections, much like the vestiges of a half-forgotten dream that vanish upon waking.

This collection invokes a sense of nostalgia, romance, and melancholy in the echoes of the past, intertwining with our innermost aspirations and the fleeting emotions that shape the insubstantial yet profound moments in life.

Catch Tam Urao’s dreams as they take shape at Badass Art Gallery from June 15-30, 2025.

AN HOMAGE TO FATHERS

Badass Art Gallery pays homage to fathers this June with “The Man I Look Up To,” an ARTipolo Group exhibit honoring the paternal bonds that bind us. Hero, sage, gentle spirit, or badass: Fathers are the main character on our walls from June 1–15, 2025.
