Mesina,
A veteran of local group exhibits since 1978, Pol Mesina Jr. reaches deep into his humble beginnings for inspiration in his art. His more popular works portray religious occasions, such as the Feast of the Black Nazarene in Quiapo and processions of the Virgin Mary. He takes art to heart from both the natural and the manmade—from the magnificent views of the Antipolo hills to everyday scenes that depict the gaiety of neighborhood kids at play.
Pol's artistic preference is a mix of impressionism and realism that expresses life through tonal values of light, shadow, and color. He has made forays into abstract renditions with a minimalist palette and explored pointillism that distinguishes his religious art. For this, Pol received recognition from the Holy Pope John Paul II at the Vatican City in Rome in 1981.
In 1996, Pol Mesina Jr. made the crucial decision to leave his work as a background artist for local and international animation companies and strike out on his own as a full-time visual artist. Since then, he has had six solo exhibits between 2001 and 2012. He co-founded the ARTipolo Group in 2014. Pol is an inspiration for the younger generation of artists that he guides under the ARTipolo Group, where he is now on his tenth consecutive term as elected president.
A dedicated leader and mentor, Pol is much sought-after as a tutor and organizer of art workshops for schools and private companies. He has also been invited as guest speaker on art topics and as judge and coordinator in art contests.
