Tuaño,
Mary Joy Ann Tuaño has a flair for visualizing the feminine nature, expressed in various themes and moods, subdued acrylic colors, and a variety of media in her art pieces. She describes herself as a continuous artistic experiment, testing textures, techniques and materials. For her, painting and cooking are essentially the same experience: the thrill of creation, reconnection with sentiment or nostalgia, and finally, consumption for enjoyment.
Prior to returning to the Philippines in February 2024, Ms. Tuaño lived in Guangzhou, China, for six years with her diplomat husband. There, her love for art grew while enjoying the delights of Cantonese food culture. She was a member of the Guangdong-based Filipino artists group, FilEstilo, which helped her express her belief in how amity between the Filipino and Chinese peoples can be nurtured through the visual arts and create a better understanding of each other's culture and societies.
Ms. Tuaño has been featured in several exhibitions around China since 2022. As part of FilEstilo, she was cited in the coffee table book “Colors of Diplomacy” for their large triptych “Buklod ng Lahing Pilipino” that adorns the lobby of the Philippine Consulate General in Guangzhou. Currently, she is part of the ARTipolo Group and has participated in their group exhibitions.
