Tungol,
With a professional background in advertising and video production, Maxi Tungol (a.k.a. IMax) harnesses her natural aptitude in creative communication to express herself through her art.
Self-taught, she started her painting journey with experimentation. The style she found is nontraditional. A single piece of her work may employ a mix of several mediums: oil, acrylic, gouache, ink, or raw powdered pigments. A torn piece of an old book, leftover lace, gems (?) or just plastic baubles, sand from her garden, driftwood, or charcoal: any of these small found objects and unorthodox materials can find their way into her artworks.
Her concepts are just as diverse, even random: from a simple pair of shoes to surreal landscapes, city spaces, and human relationships (complete with artistic commentary). Each piece is a veritable journey in exploration and experimentation on a wide range of subjects using unconventional, surprising techniques. Asked what her style is, Maxi says she just likes to call it “freestyle.”
Now retired from commercial work, Maxi spends her free time thinking of new ways to illustrate her impressions of life with equal parts irony and humor—sometimes with intention, other times by chance.

The art of IMax offers different takes on otherwise mundane topics, with interpretations that are surprising—if not unusual—but certainly hybrid.
